Subject Knowledge Enhancement at Liverpool Hope University

We are delighted to announce Liverpool Hope University as our partner this year, offering Distance Learning Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses in the sciences, English, geography, computer science, Spanish and French for trainees with a conditional place on an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme.

SKE courses are intended to boost teacher trainees' subject knowledge prior to ITT to enable successful progression to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). They are particularly useful for those whose academic background omits aspects of their SKE specialist subject at a level necessary for teaching it in secondary schools.

All of our SKE courses are funded by the NCTL and are therefore free to participants. Additionally, eligible NCTL-funded SKE trainees are entitled to a tax-free bursary. The bursary is dependent on attendance and progression at the required rate. Liverpool Hope University will apply for the bursary and administer these payments.

We deliver 8 week courses which are GCSE focused, 16 week courses which are A Level focused and 28 week courses which cover both GCSE and A Level. Our courses are rich with online resources that are underpinned by our celebrated interactive videos. Use the menu on the left to select a course, read further course information and apply online.
